Chairman of the Trust
David Massey is a Managing Director of a working boat yard in Cheshire and a marina developer. He was instrumental in establishing the Trust with our benefactor Henry Bicket.
He is somewhat boat ‘mad’ and has extensive experience in sailing, having been ‘on the water’ virtually all of his working life. After qualifying as a technical artist he found ‘city life’ did not suit and took a sabbatical into hotel canal narrow boats. This led to a canal boat yard and subsequently experience with ocean-going yachts. The sabbatical has lasted a life-time; the pinnacle of his sailing experience is probably rounding Cape Horn in a 74 foot sailing ketch and subsequently escaping the Buenos Aires riots in December 2001.
David is a past RMYC Commodore, can recite from memory enough poetry to last a whole watch to say nothing of his rich singing voice. He owns two Royal Mersey Mylnes classic sailing boats which he races with RMYC. He has RYC qualifications including Yacht Master offshore and MCA commercial qualifications.
